Japanese Flower Artist Hikaru Seino’s Art exhibition in Tokyo.
“People’s life are deep as a root. Gathering many experience and every encounter makes one big trunk of a tree. All just to grow straight toward the sky.”
In January 2019, Japanese Flower artist Hikaru Seino created a one-of-a-kind art display in the center of Roppongi Hills, one of the most famous building and the leader in Tokyo’s urban development. The property consists of a first-class hotel, the headquarters of a television station, a movie theater, and the world’s most advanced commercial facilities. Hikaru and his team created the main display for the new year.
Fusion of tradition and development.
The first thing we could perceive from his work, created using the vegetation of plants, is the respect for Japanese traditions.
The main thick rope made of rice straw is based on a design from a straw rope which is a ceremonial article of significance in Shinto. People decorate entrance of their homes on new year with this “Shimenawa” to indicate areas where gods descend.
However, Hikaru mentions that this work is not all about traditions.
In order to share thoughts with people, and want them to know your message, they need to stop their foot, and see it first.
It means a lot to have a florist create a work of art in a place where so many people are paying attention every year. In Hikaru’s words, “We are laughing, we are angry, and we are driving all of our emotions on this earth. But why do we forget that our lives are always with plants and natures? We cannot create nature for ourselves. I believe when we look deep into it, we will understand everything better.”
An traditional, avant-garde, and creative work that opens the new year. When the art work was opened to the public, many people stopped to take photos and greeted the belief with his work.
